Unique Fitness Opportunities
Fitness is usually a go-to resolution for the New Year. And, in Flagstaff, there is no shortage of options to assist with achieving any fitness goal. While the fitness center is available at Pine Canyon for individual cardio and weight training, and our club offers group classes, there are also a few options around town that might sound interesting for those who may be looking for something a little different.
Tranzend Studio Fitness offers a variety of classes that include Zumba and strength training. But, the studio also offers a Sassy Vixen class, with dance moves inspired by burlesque, a POUND class that employs the use of weighted drumsticks, and a class called Raise the Bar that uses a weighted bar to engage your core. Schedules and pricing are available on the Tranzend website.
If you feel like you need to get a grip, Flagstaff is a great spot for rock climbing. Between Beta Bouldering and Flagstaff Climbing, the area has a few options for indoor climbing that challenge every skill level. And if you don’t have the gear, that’s no problem. Rentals are available, and classes are offered to up your climbing game.
Flagstaff Parkour and Fitness offers a novel take on natural movement in a natural environment. Classes are held at Thorpe Park and encourage participants to mix martial arts, parkour movements, and dance to get through environments. Parkour is a free flow form of fitness that reminds adults and inspires kids, to jump, run and fall.
For a low impact workout that packs a lasting punch, try a Barre3 class. The full-body workout can be modified for any fitness level, and it works to build functional strength, tone and energize. No experience is required, no equipment is needed, and the classes call for yoga attire.
And, if you’re hoping to fly high in the coming year, perhaps an aerial class may be enticing. Flagstaff Aerial Arts offers drop-in classes for participants ages 6 years and older. The silks classes demand core strength and challenge experience gymnasts and yogis to take their game up to the next level.
Here’s hoping you meet and exceed your fitness goals for 2019 whether it’s at Pine Canyon or in the company of Flagstaff’s scene of talented instructors and performers.
