Solitude in the Outdoors

Living in a city offers its conveniences but presents certain obstacles. Street lights make it difficult to see the stars. Traffic can eat up precious time. And noise can pollute moments designed to be quiet.

That’s why getting away, to find solitude in the wilderness near Pine Canyon in Flagstaff, is such an appealing opportunity to the homeowners and members who find refuge in our community. They crave a new kind of space, one that isn’t measured in square footage, but instead in thousands of acres.

Because being alone at home, as many of us have been for some time now, can be isolating and lonely. But being alone outdoors is a different kind of welcome solitude. It’s an escape from WiFi and household chores and a return to the primal, childish need to see what’s around the corner.

Pine Canyon, adjacent to the Coconino National Forest, offers endless opportunities to get lost outdoors on purpose. Seeking solitude allows for a renewed connection to the mountain landscape, to the abundance of wildlife in the area, and to the creeks and trails that wind their way through the unique terrain in the region.

There is serenity in solitude, in taking time to connect with crisp, clear mountain air, with dark, starry skies and along curvy trails that pass by pines and aspens. The solitude is part of what makes Pine Canyon so special.
