Gold Emerges as Seasons Change at Pine Canyon
Flagstaff transforms in fall, transitioning from a palette of lush greens to one that includes canopies of gold as aspen trees enter a new season. It is a spectacular sight to see, one people drive for hours to experience and one Pine Canyon residents get to appreciate from their own backyards.
Change is definitely in the air, and Pine Canyon has the good fortune of watching it, in all its splendor, from a front-row seat.
While many people may think the leaves on the aspen trees change from green to a golden yellow, they are only somewhat correct in that assumption. That golden color is always there, throughout the year, but during warmer months it’s simply overridden by the green that overtakes the leaf during chlorophyll production.
So, when days become shorter in fall, the green fades revealing that beautiful, golden under layer. And people can’t seem to get enough of it, as those golden leaves give even more depth to a rainbow of colors that decorate the landscape this time of year.
It’s difficult to peg the best day or week to experience the changing leaves, since it all depends on elevation, moisture, and weather. But there’s no doubt that fall is the time of year when green gives way to gold at Pine Canyon.
And in Flagstaff, there is no shortage of places to see the leaves and capture beautiful photos of the changing backdrop — from Lockett Meadow to Snowbowl. Those changing leaves provide one more moment of serenity rolled into the overall Pine Canyon experience, offering owners a new way to appreciate and connect with the environment around them.
