Gearing Up for the Rifleman
The Rifleman. Pine Canyons men’s member-guest major and the most highly anticipated golf tournament of the year. Named after the American Western television program from the ’50s, the tournament carries a similar spirit of fight and fellowship.
Members and their guests arrive Wednesday morning outfitted in matching attire, hungry to get on the course and scope out their opponents. Although official matches don’t begin until day two, day one kickstarts the competition with a horserace followed by the annual Calcutta Auction.
The next three days are jam-packed with 90 holes of golf, two dinner parties, and of course, Stag Night. But with food and refreshments around every corner, and massage therapist available daily, players are ensured to stay fueled and refreshed all tournament long. From dawn to dusk, The Rifleman Tournament keeps players eager and is designed to satisfy the most avid of golfers.
But after four days and five matches, everything leads to the shootout.
Overlooking the ninth green, spouses, children, and fellow neighbors crowd Morrish Station. The director of golf begins their play-by-play announcement as chatter fills the air of who will be titled this year’s champion. But once all four players hit the green, the audience turns to crickets, and in true Rifleman spirit, the shootout often comes down to one final stroke. Read, align, and putt. As the ball sinks into the cup the crowd roars. This year’s Rifleman Champions have been rightfully awarded. Let the celebration begin.
