Embark on a Haunted Journey Downtown
Aged, yellowed leaves line the streets, and with every crunchy step, embrace the brisk autumn air around you. With Halloween right around the corner, there is no better occasion to spend some time in downtown Flagstaff and with over a century of paranormal history, there is a spooky tale around every corner.
To experience everything spooky Downtown Flagstaff has to offer we recommend following a haunted self-guided tour by Discover Flagstaff.
Here are a couple of spooky tales to give you a seek-peek before embarking on your haunted journey.
1926 RAILROAD STATION
1 E Route 66
Before 1926, railroad tracks ran through the center of the Flagstaff railroad station, although a common practice it presented some issues when it came to workplace safety. One cloudy afternoon, on those original tracks, a brakeman was crushed between two boxcars while on the job. Operating as today’s Visitor Center, descriptions of cold patches and door locking on their own have been expressed by employees. Could it be the brakeman?
MONTE VISTA HOTEL
100 N San Francisco Street
Arguably the most haunted place in Arizona, Hotel Monte Vista holds handfuls of spooky tales and ghost sightings. But one story sticks out than the others and takes place in reportedly the most active room in the hotel, room 305. Both guests and staff have described the ghost of an elderly woman sitting in a rocking chair by the window overlooking the town, while others have reported seeing the chair rock by all by itself. Staff members have even moved the chair to other locations of the room and somehow it always makes its way back to the window. Would you dare to stay in room 305?
