Dog Days of Summer

No one can deny that dogs are a part of the Pine Canyon family. That’s why this year’s fundraiser as part of our annual Concert in the Park is going to the dogs. Literally.

Besides, as we head into the dog days of summer, it only makes sense to celebrate our favorite four-legged buddies. So this year’s event will give fanfare to everything we love about our furry little Fidos, including a fundraiser for Flagstaff-based animal advocacy group Paw Placement, a dog pageant, and a Rainbow Bridge memorial.

We will even extend an invitation for the dogs of the community to attend the Concert in the Park, where the Chicago-based cover band Rendition will rock the night away as they usually do. Just don’t forget a leash!

The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, with a dog walk from the Clubhouse to Trout Creek Park, and continue with an opportunity to memorialize lost pets with a Rainbow Bridge ceremony and blessing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. As part of that ceremony, Pine Canyon residents will have the opportunity to purchase and engrave tags for beloved pets, with proceeds benefiting Paw Placement. The engraved tags will be placed in the dog park as a permanent memorial. Please note that tags may be purchased at the event, but they need to be ordered by June 26 to be engraved in time for the memorial ceremony.

A dog parade, complete with judges and awards, will kick off at 4 p.m. before Rendition takes the stage at 5 p.m. To add to the energy, a number of canine-friendly vendors will be on site, including trainers, Ruff n’ Cuffs, Canyon Pet Hospital, and Kingsmark Kennels, among others.

Two-legged residents over the age of 21 won’t be forgotten, either. They’ll be able to enjoy suds and wine from Lumberyard, Mother Road and Sorso Wine Wagon.

As is customary with this event, Pine Canyon’s charitable group, Pine Canyon Cares, will be accepting donations on behalf of the event’s designated organization. In previous years, the generosity of the Pine Canyon community has provided for thousands of dollars in donations to local organizations, and we’re hoping this year will be no different for Paw Placement.
